Why Use A Shower Cap

Why Use a Shower Cap
Shower caps are a great investment for anyone with curly hair or if you are someone that doesn’t want to wash your hair every time you shower.
The benefits of a shower cap are to protect your locks from the moisture and steam in the shower.  By locking the moisture out you will avoid frizz and the effects of humidity to your hair, in turn your style will last for days.

Ouidad Ultra Nourishing Cleansing Oil

Ouidad Ultra Nourishing Oil Shampoo
By Rosie
I have found my new favorite shampoo.  A shampoo that is good and repairing for my long locks.  My new favorite is Ouidad’s Curl Recovery Ultra Nourishing Cleansing Oil.  Now, I know the word oil is weird to say when it comes to shampoo, but it just means it has an oil base and the best part is that IT LATHERS!  It has a foaming water-activated cleanser with an oil base that gently removes dirt and build up while restoring essential moisture.  Ingredients in this shampoo are Mafura Butter and Kalahari Melon Seed Oil, which goes into the hair shaft with a cushion-like coating of concentrated fatty acids that are vital to rebuilding, nourishing and protecting hair that needs repair).  Silk proteins and coconut oils bind the cuticle to sustain hydration and resist damage while enhancing body and shine.
I absolutely love this shampoo!  It leaves my hair with shine, health, and (my favorite word) BODY!!  If you are looking for a new shampoo, this is the product you want to try.

Jackie's Curly Hair Routine

My Curly Hair Routine

Day 1.  My hair type is wavy and my sides tend to be looser than the back.  I use Ouidad Tress Effects and Climate Control mixed together and rake and shake my hair in small sections to ensure my waves don’t become weighed down.  I spritz the sea spray on the top and sides of my hair to encourage curl where it lacks, then scrunch and diffuse until 90% dry.  Adding clips on the top of my head promotes height, and I air dry the rest of the way.  Pomade and shine glaze combined is the final step to get my soft wavy locks.

Day2:  When I wake up in the morning on my second day, the sides of my hair have flattened out.  (My hair is too short to wear in a bun when I sleep.)   I start with the sea spray as my refresher, and if it is still looking a little too limp in some spots before I walk out the door I will hit a few pieces with a 1” curling wand to perk it up a bit.

Day 3:  at this point a refresher spray won’t do much for my looser curls so I just bring out the wand again and pick up any flat pieces until my curls come to life.  I then use the styling mist and scrunch to hold my desired volume (clips for extra height).  This doesn’t take more than 10 minutes.

Refreshing Curly Styles with Ouidad Botanical Boost

Refreshing Curly Styles using Ouidad Botanical Boost
One of the benefits of the Ouidad Rake and Shake Styling technique is keeping the style set for about 3 days.  Sleeping with your hair in a loose poly tail on the top of your head keeps curls from getting limp.  In the morning I take out my ponytail and let my hair rest for 10 minutes or so.  Then I spritz my hair with Botanical Boost Moisture Infusing and Refresher Spray.  I like to scrunch my ends lightly with my fingers and my hair is set to go.

Perfect hair in crazy weather

Posted:

I was on vacation in Florida with my family for a few days last week. Our first day there was about  75-80 degrees and rainy. So my daughters and I decided to do what girls do, and we went shopping. That morning I had washed and set my hair with a combination of Ouidad's Climate Control and Tress Effects Gels. I did the Rake and Shake technique , and we were soon on our way. As we walked in and out of the stores for the next few hours, we got caught in wind, misty rain, as well as a bit of pouring rain. Despite the weather, we did have a good time.
Once we got back to our condo, and I looked in the mirror, I couldn't believe how good my hair still looked!!! There was not a bit of frizz to be seen! After using this product for the past 4 1/2 years, I still am amazed by these types of results!! ( the photos above were taken 1 hour after we got back that day)
So for super humid or rainy days, I recommend the Climate Control gel mixed with Tress Effects. Apply generously, and Rake and Shake. Knowing you may get caught in the rain, I suggest not opening up the curls. They will loosen up on their own with the humidity in the air.

Mediterranean Bay Leaf: Miracle Scalp Treatment

Posted:
The Mediterranean Bay Leaf exfoliating scalp treatment is infused with sugar cane, lemon and apple extracts for a gentle exfoliation along with bamboo to clear your scalp and hair follicles of build up. The bay leaf oil controls dandruff and promotes hair growth because it stimulates blood circulation when used on the scalp. This scalp treatment can be used on anyone who feels they have build up and/or dry itchy scalp.
In the salon we have used this product on many clients with very thick heavy hair. Many of these clients do not scrub their scalp while shampooing the way they should. When this is the case their scalp has a bulid up of cells that can become very irritating to the skin, smell and can be flaky. It is as if their heavy hair suffocates the scalp.  We apply this product to freshly shampooed, wet hair. Directly to the scalp.  The Mediterranean Bay Leaf treatment is then massaged into the client's scalp for 7 min, covered w a plastic cap and left on for another 10 min. We have found that it needs to be shampooed out gently and followed by one of Ouidad's daily conditioners.
For the ultimate treatment follow the Mediterranean Bay Leaf treatment by either Ouidad's  12 Minute Deep Treatment or Omega-3 Treatment and then you have taken care of not only your scalp but your hair too!

Omega-3 Treatment from Ouidad

Posted:
Omega-3 replenishing hair treatment is for extremely dry and damaged tresses. This treatment is a blend of omega 3,6 &9. This combination of potent omegas will help restore the lipid barrier of the hair strand and fortifies it's protective surface layer.
The Lipid barrier is made up of hydro (water) and lipids (fats). Together they form an emulsion that coats the hair and skin to keep both hydrated and in optimum condition.  If the hydro-lipid layer is damaged or completely removed, the hair loses a vital source of consistent moisture, the rigid cuticle scales are left exposed to mechanical damage and other insults.  Which leads to porus, rough, absent of gloss or elasticity and vulnerable to breakage.
That is where Omega-3 Replenishing hair treatment comes to the rescue. A deeply hydrating, washout treatment that re-hydrates the hair shaft, restores and replenishes lost moisture and breathes new life into hair.
•Made with Ouidad's proprietary amino acid cocktail – including Flax Seed Oil, Passion Fruit Seed Oil and Acai Pulp Oil – the formula recreates the protective lipid barrier and re-hydrates the hair shaft, restoring and replenishing lost moisture.
This product also offers mega hydration and leaves your hair soft and bouncy with superior  shine. Omega-3 should be applied to wet hair liberally, combed through and it can be used with or without heat. When used with heat it intensifies it's benefits. Gently wash out and then apply your daily conditioner. Use up to three times a week for intense repair.

Biotin from Ouidad

Posted:
Biotin is a vitamin that supports the health of hair, skin and nails. This product can be applied to wet hair in areas of concern such as breakage or extreme dryness and styled as usual. When Biotin is used as a blow dry serum it gives a tremendous amount of volume and shine. Another way to use Biotin is apply it directly to the scalp and sleep with it on. This will promote a healthy scalp and a healthy hair follicle which = HEALTHY HAIR GROWTH! As a preventitive treatment, use daily in wet hair before blowdrying to protect from the damage created by heated styling tools. Biotin from Ouidad can be used in curly and straight hair.

Andrea Kelly's Tutorial of How to Style With The Rake And Shake

Posted:

Stylist How-To Of Rake and Shake Styling:

  • After I had cut Lindsay’s hair using the Ouidad technique of Carving and Slicing®, I taught her how to Rake and Shake her hair to achieve a defined style that would show her curls off and that would last for several days.
  • The first thing I did was treat her hair with the 12 Minute Deep Treatment.  This helped restore the moisture of her hair, control the frizz, and leave her with a shine she had never seen before!
  •  Next I applied about a quarter size of Curl Recovery™ Whipped Curls Daily Conditioner & Styling Primer, starting at the ends and working it through the rest of the hair. This is a great primer for the hair prior to adding gel or styling aid.
  •  I then separated her hair into five sections and applied Climate Control® Heat & Humidity Gel  generously to each section from scalp to ends. This step is essential for the curls to last and be defined. Next, starting at the nape, I took about 1 inch wide sections, “raked” them smooth with my fingers, and “shaked” them. This technique created by Ouidad actually creates a “set” for the hair to dry naturally in very defined sections.
  • At this time I used a diffuser to dry the hair. This also helps set the curls into a stronger curl pattern for longevity of the style.
  • Once Lindsay’s hair was completely dry, I used Clear Control Pomade to open up her curls. I did this by using about the size of a small marble, and rubbing it in between my hands. I took her hair into my hands as if to put it into a ponytail, being somewhat gentle. Then, she bent upside down, and I used my hands to loosen up the gel around the scalp area, and scrunched the rest of the product into her ends. Once she flipped up, her hair looked full and bouncy.
  • I finished it up with some Styling Mist to keep it in place.

How Ouidad came to Chicago

(Ouidad Deep Treatment, Haircut and Style done by Andrea)

By Andrea K.

One of the most frequently asked questions I get asked while behind the chair is "How did you start specializing in Ouidad?". It is one of my favorite stories to tell because working with curly has has truly became my passion!

About 9 years ago one of my clients ( and childhood friend) told me about this great product that she started using on her hair called Ouidad. Her sister ordered it from New York, and loved it, so she tried it herself. She told me it was the best thing she ever used on her hair. I was skeptical mostly because I was sold on another product that controlled my hair since I was 13 years old. Being a stylist for many years, I did have the opportunity to sample products all the time, but none worked better than "my Spritz Forte"... Until the day I learned they where discontinuing "my Spritz".  I was panicked! What was I going to do ?!

I got a hold of Play Curly Volumizing foam by Ouidad and gave it a try. That was the moment that changed EVERYTHING for me!! I was on the phone THAT DAY with the Ouidad Salon in New York, not only ordering more product, but getting all the information I needed to become a Ouidad Certified Stylist. The next thing I knew, I was on airplane to New York about 3 weeks later training under Ouidad's wing to become Illinois' first Ouidad Certified stylist!

I can't believe how rewarding this has been! I have truly found my passion and "nitch"  in my field of hair dressing. I have never thought I would have a clientele from multiple states! It is awesome to be able to teach my customers "how" to style their curly hair, embrace it, and love it!

Why Ouidad?

Posted:
By Jennifer Janisch, Ouidad certified.

Ouidad is a cutting and styling technique for wavy, tight, kinky, frizzy, hair. Ouidad is life changing for many people with unruly, frizzy, hair. How do I know? Because I live it!

My name is Jennifer and I have very curly hair. It has changed over the years. I started out with a loose wave when I was little. During my teen years my curls became tighter. As a tried to brush through them my hair looked extremely frizzy and not at all anything I wanted. A family friend permed my hair in hopes of loosening my hair. My hair turned into a insanely kinky mop after I permed it.

While in highschool I attended beauty school and leaned how to better handel   my hair and grew to look it. However, my hair lacked any kind of definition. My curls moved as one full mass, never as strands. It was so stiff from the wrong products that a bird could have gotten stuck in my hair!

Many years later my good friend Andrea Kelly introduced me to Ouidad. INSTANTLY the cut "skinnied" my hair. My hair was no longer as wide as my shoulders. My curls were defined with the "rake and shake" styling technique and my curls moved like strands of hair and blew in the breeze. I had volume, not a helmet, yay! My hair is now soft and touchable.

The other thing I have found with Ouidad's cut and styling technique and the correct product description is, curly hair appears longer because it is not as wide. The whole process elongates the hair which is something us curly girls are looking for.

This experience prompted me to go to Ouidad and become a certified stylist as well. Now on a daily basis I direct curly girls to the right products for their hair. I give them a cut they love and teach them how to have amazing, healthy, defined curls that last!

Since I have curly hair myself and use Ouidad myself and on my clients, I know what works and what doesn't work. It's a BEAUTIFUL thing.
