That time of year is approaching quickly. Mustard yellows, plum purples, and olive greens. Cozy sweaters and messy top knots. But you cannot forget the pumpkin spice lattes! We followed top Runway Shows that showcased trends for fall 2019 to give you The Studio Hair Salon & Spa’s top favorites for this season

  • Jelly French is a brilliant upcoming trend that replaces that bubble gum pink base in a classic French to a sweet and smooth Lavender base. It is the perfect way to set a laid-back vibe to your cozy fall days. Being a pastel nude means it will be a perfect diverse color for all your sweaters.
  • Rodarte was a runway show that took place in California. Although it was rained out, that did not stop the designers from showcasing the glitz and glam. That is how this nail look was born. Bold and Glitter. How could you possibly go wrong? Grab a bold shade like cherry red, peacock blue, or plum purple and coat it with a glittery finish. Go for a thin glitter not the chunky. Thin glitter will scream elegance and bold.
  • Polk Dot nails are back. Yes, you can scream a little! They are simple and fun yet customizable to fit you. Pair light hues with dark ones. Try Plum purples with lavender dots. Or Beige base with white dots. Mix it up even more and reverse the nail bases with dots.
  • Chromat was inspired by tropical vibes based in the heart of Miami. With a recent move from New York to Miami has allowed this nail art to blossom into the masterpiece that showcases your true colors. The key to this work is Bright and Marbleized.   • Animal prints were popular this summer and that wave will continue into fall. Especially Leopard Prints on a bold nude background. Unlike summer, we will start with a nude base. Add individual(s) leopard spots on each nail. Some spots can fully cover the nail, while others will only partial cover the nail.

To Cut or Not to Cut - That is the True Question

A common request that our stylists here at The Studio Hair Salon and Day Spa gets is “just trim the ends” but depending on your specific hair type and desired length, this isn’t always the best request. Many factors go into the proper amount that should be cut each trip. Is your hair super thin or very thick, do you have right curls or no waves, do you want it long or keep it short, what about bangs? All these factors determine whether you should cut more than the “ends” and how often you should cut your hair.

Long Hair:
 
  • Healthy, moisturized, virgin hair, meaning that it has never been colored, highlighted or permed, or exposed to heat damage, can usually go 6-10 weeks between cuts.  We recommend cutting about one inch to maintain your current length.  This will keep growth to cutting ratio close to one another.

  • If you want to grow your long locks even more, stay closer to a 1/4 - 1/2 inch.  This will always ensure there is more growth than cutting.  However, if you hair is damaged and you do not keep the spilt ends cut regularly, the hair strand will continue to split further up and result in long hair that looks wispy – stringy on the ends, because it splits and then breaks. 


Medium Hair:

  • Medium - Long hair should be cut 6-8 weeks, removing 1/2 inch to maintain the current length.  To continue the growth only trim 1/4 - 1/2 inch intervals.

  • Medium-Short hair should be cut 5-6 weeks, following the above amounts. Medium hair is a unique balance on what YOU want. Whether that be a longer style or shorter.

  • Bobs and Lobs are meant to be shorter, if your hair begins to grow past the traditional length of a bob/lob you are no longer considered to have that style. That’s why we recommend every 6 weeks.  It keeps clean sharp lines that will grow out nicely before your next cut.

Short Hair:

  • Pixies are the same way as bobs and lobs. Letting a pixie grow out too much will dilute your style and turn to a mess.  Stick to appointments 4 weeks apart.


Curly Hair:

  • Tight coarse curls should be cut every 6-8 weeks. Adding additional weight can stretch your curls and cause them to lose some of their playfulness. To maintain your same curl length cut ½-1 inch off. To grow them out a little more only remove ¼- ½ inch per visit.

  • Medium Curls should be trimmed closer to 6-8 weeks. The longer medium to fine curls grow the stringer they begin to look. Keep them bouncy and curly with frequent trims.

Bangs:

  • Bangs are no exception and should be cut every 2 weeks! This does not mean cutting all your hair. Just pop in for a quick trim to keep your bangs from looking straggly and overgrown.

Layers:

  • Long Layers should be cut every 6-8 weeks. This gives your hair long enough to grow but trimmed frequently enough to keep framing layers in place.

  • Multiple Layers should be trimmed every 6 weeks. Our stylists always explain to clients that week 1 multiple layers have a textured look. By week 4 layers have a sexy/lived in vibe.  And by week 8 layers begin to take a mind of their own. Keep the trimmed to stay textured and sassy!

Colored Hair:

  • Colored hair should be 4-6 weeks. Long hair tends to have more fragile ends, so coming in more frequently will allow your stylist to assess how much should be removed to keep it long and healthy.

Perms!

A Perm can cut your styling time in half and give you those beautiful beachy waves or soft curls that you dream of. 
This year, women are craving sexy playful beach waves. But the problem is they don’t want to spend hours perfecting each messy curl. This is why stylist have revamped the perm. Yes, we said it, a perm. But this time get the 80s poodle look out of your mind. We are talking tousled glamorous waves, air dried purposefully sloppy curls. We want ease and beauty wrapped in one look, and for the first time in decades SALON can give it to women all over the world the curls they deserve!

 
Perms or permanent waves are for everyone, even men. You can keep you balayage or ombre vibes but add some luscious waves to it. One thing we haven’t changed is the time it takes to successfully execute the perfect perm. On average it takes about two hours, depending on length and thickness of your hair. It is an involved process that stylists meticulously put your hair through that will allow you to have ease and perfect curls later. 
They start by cleaning your hair. This is to remove any product buildup and allow your stylist to begin with a blank canvas. Stylists will wrap individual sections of your hair around rods. Depending on the type of curl you desire will determine which set of rods a stylist will use. They will apply the perming solution. During this step the bonds in your hair is broken down. They will rinse and apply a neutralizer which is what causes your hair to reform around the rod to give you a curl. One more rinse, a cut, and some styling, you will be walking out of the salon with volumizing curls!
 
If you have never had a perm or have naturally straight hair a perm can be a big change. You must remember that it changes the bonds in your hair, so its texture and natural hydration can change. It’s not a bad change but simply a matter of making a new routine. For example, I got my perm about a year ago, and to this day, I can shower in the evening, add a little bit of Redken Mega Hydramelt for additional hydration, wrap my hair in a silk hair scarf. In the morning I wake up with beach waves that takes some women hours to achieve. Other women can shower in the mornings, use a diffuser for a few minutes and walk out the door with fabulous curls. Its just a matter of finding what works for you. Our stylists are experts in curls and can even help you find what routine works best for you and your new curls.

Fast, FUN, and Easy Festival Hair Styles for Summer

Many festivals, such as Bonnaroo, Coachella, or Woodstock, have one thing in common, freedom and acceptance. At these events, you have a right to express your unique ideas and what better way to express them, than through your hairstyles?  The Studio Hair Salon and Day Spa is going to reveal our top five festival hair trends for Summer 2019. Some are much easier than others, but at the end of the day, it’s about you. What your style is, how you want your hair to look. We are just here to teach and assist!
 
First festival, feeling kind of nervous? Start with clean hair, add in the appropriate Redken styling product/s for long lasting hold.  Go simple yet chic with our twin disco buns. Keep it low key by keeping this look half up or go all out by styling remaining hair into two buns – the messier the better. Accent your bangs, long or short, with glitter hairspray!
 


Schedule an appointment and let us help you pull this next look off. High ponytail are very trendy this season and will have everyone looking! For added pizazz – add in a bold cornrow braid symmetrical with your facial features. Next, pull the remaining hair into a high ponytail. Add some fun with a metallic scrunchie or hoops to really set your festival hair.
 

Ladies with my natural curls, this look is for you. Curls without ponytails.  Style and volumize those curls. Enhance the bounce and add to the volume – bigger the better. Secure a high ponytail, place a bright neon clip vertical on the backside of the ponytail this will help pump up the volume. Let the wind and hair flips take care of the rest!


This year is all about the colors. We want full pastel hues, rainbows, and bold balayage’s. Still, have to go back to work on Monday? That’s okay, our stylist can add extensions or even temporary chalk to add colors without the commitment. This last style is perfect for all hair lengths. Start with some rippled beach waves, we suggest our Redken Fashion Waves 07 Sea Salt Spray. Create two three strand braids starting at the crown of your head and working your way back to each ear. Secure each braid with a small elastic. Next, begin to loosely and gently pull the braid apart. The idea is to create a fuller bohemian braid. After the desired braid is made, secure the tips with bobby pins. Use your beach waves over the ends making this summer do look natural.

Step 1: 6-8 weeks before your wedding, schedule your initial hair and makeup consultation. During this appointment you can sit down with our team and share ideas. Are you wanting long bridal braids, or a sexy messy updo or even a more classic style? Will your makeup be traditional and elegant, or modern and sassy? Now is the time to ask all your questions and create a customizable outline for the following weeks.
 
Step 2: 4 weeks before your wedding, multiple services should take place. 
     -Schedule your trail hair and makeup service. Our team will fully create your ideal wedding look. Be sure to schedule your trail services on the same day as your monthly gown fitting. It will give the bride a full image of what she will look like while walking down the aisle. Next, we suggest having a lady’s night out.
