Shellac - Services

Shellac - 40 (45 Min.)

The manicure sweeping the nation is called Shellac, and it is the trend to beat all trends this year.

Shellac is a soak-off hybrid of a gel and nail polish that made its debut in May 2010 in about 2,000 salons nationwide. A Shellac manicure -- created by Creative Nail Design after about five years of research -- lasts minimally 14 days without chipping, peeling, fading or losing any of that "just-manicured" sheen.

It has the durability of an acrylic nail treatment without inflicting any damage to the real nail and nail bed. It goes on like a polish and doesn't have the telltale thickness of acrylics or some gel manicures.

The hype was true about Shellac. It went on like a polish, and it didn't chip or fade, even weeks after the manicure. And because the "polish" is cured by ultraviolet lights instead of air drying, it was instantly bonded and strong.

This "shield" also allows the natural nail to grow, something women with weak or brittle nails love.
The secret to the durability of soak-off gels is that they look like polish but last longer because of the UV technique. In a Shellac manicure, a technician paints on a base coat, two color coats and top coat (all special Shellac products, not over-the-counter).

The shellac manicure lasts at least two weeks and usually only needs to be removed because the nails have grown and there's a gap between the polish and the nail bed.
