Google Personalized Search
Possibly the biggest change ever in how Google works just happened. In effect, every person that uses Google will now be seeing different results.
Google is now personalizing the results you see based on 2 primary things: 1) Your Location & 2) Your Web History. What you see will be different than what everyone else sees.
For salons & spas, it makes the question "where do I rank on Google?" harder to answer & less important. For people using Google to find things, it can make it easier to find things you've found before. But on the flip side, it might be harder to find new stuff.
Google has been taking your location into account for some time. For example, if you search for Burger King, Google assumes you want to find a restaurant close to you instead 700 miles away. Makes sense, right?
Taking your Web Browsing History into account is much newer. In the past, Google has ONLY tracked how you use Google & other websites if you're logged into Google (via GMail, Google Accounts, Google Calandar or one of the other Google tools that require you to login). The new change means that they will track and use your web usage history even if you're not logged in to Google.
The bottom line is that you can't expcet what you see on Google to be the same as what someone else sees. So what should you do?
First, don't get hung up on where you rank for something on Google.
Second, focus on results: Is your website getting visitors? Are you getting customers because of your website? If you're not asking new customers how they found you, it's time to start.
A StyleNet website can be the best investment you make. As your web partner, we've made sure that your website is built in a Google-Friendly way. Most salon websites are not.

Land a Salon Job with a Great Resume
Many professionals are aware of how to write a standard resume and perform well at a job interview. However, as a beauty professional, there are a few things that can be on your resume that will help you in the long run. Hairdressers, nail techs, estheticians & massage therapists need to highlight qualifications that will give them an edge above others. Whether you're looking for commission based salon jobs or a booth rental as an independent contractor, here are five things to highlight on your resume when you go in for your next job at a salon or spa.
Certifications
Redken Certified Haircolorist, Pravana Hair Colorist Certification... almost every company in the beauty industry offers special certification to professionals. The certification shows you are educated in their specific product lines and shows you perform to their standards. Including any certifications you have received will help a salon owner know your personal standards on the job and how well you know your product lines.
Extra training
Trade shows, continuing education, and seminars all offer training courses. Many of these courses refresh the knowledge you already have. Others give you a look into new technologies, products, and companies in the hair salon & beauty industry. Adding the extra training you have received will show a hair salon owner how serious you are about continuing your education.
Specialties
Every beauty professional has a specialty such as fabulous manicures, creative color, or excellent short hair styles. Make sure to include what you excel in on your resume. The salon owner will appreciate the extra addition and it will also help them market you to their customers.
Business experience
There is a business side to the salon. Experienced as a salon coordinator? Have you held salon manager jobs? Salon front desk or receptionist jobs? Ever done salon web design or marketing? Have you been a successful booth renter? That's real world business experience so make sure to include it in your resume. The salon owner will know that you are not only a beauty professional, but you are also serious about having a professional attitude and work environment.
Other beauty and fashion industry experience
The beauty and fashion industries seem to mesh together all the time. If you have had any experience in either of those industries, include it in your resume. Your skill at interior design might come in handy with salon design. Many beauty professionals have been models, Distributor Sales Consultants, or make-up artists. Show the salon owner that you know more than one side of the spectrum. Impress them and it could mean the difference in whether or not you get the job!
Salon Manager Secrets of Success
Does your salon run like a well oiled machine? Whatever the answer, the tone is set by the salon manager. As a salon manager, you'll go a long way toward setting the right tone if you focus on three key areas: communication, organization and marketing.
Day spas & salons, regardless of size, must function as a team. As the head of this team, a great salon manager keeps an open line of communication with the team. Let the team feel like they can come to you with issues and concerns. Be a good listener and propose solutions as quick as you can. Good communication can go a long way toward handling the inevitable problems that face every salon manager.
A large part of a successful salon is good management and organization. Make sure that you and your team are up to date on courses, continuing education, and state licenses.
For the day to day business operations, make sure you've got the right salon software that includes both salon appointment software and POS salon software. If you're a booth rental salon, some beauty salon software can even help manage booth rental contracts.
Good salon marketing can pave the road to success. If you don't have an unlimited marketing budget, you'll need to find a partner that can deliver the biggest bang for your buck. In the age of the Internet, the web is often the 1st place that your prospects go to find a salon.
Not all salon websites are created equal when it comes to marketing results. Many web designers can build a nice looking website, but if they don't specialize in salon design, it's likely that you won't get great marketing results.
With StyleNet, you'll get a beautiful salon web design with no upfront charge. But more importantly, you'll get a website that is guaranteed to produce marketing results!
Salon manager jobs can be both challenging and rewarding. If you'll focus on communication, organization and marketing, you'll be heading in the right direction!
