Programs

University Academy of Hair Design makes admissions decisions based on each applicant’s interest and ability.    A prospect who wishes to enroll must go through the following admissions process:

·        Complete and submit the enrollment application.

·        Tour the institution (optional)

High School / GED

·        Submit a copy of valid high school diploma, GED, or official transcript showing high school completion, or certificate of attainment (only applicable for non – Title IV recipients)

Home School

·        Have evidence of completion of home schooling that state law treats as a home, private, or church school.  (Alabama only recognizes home school certificates conducted by a home school program in Alabama.)  Students who have a home school or online diploma will need to provide a diploma along with an official transcript or just the official transcript with graduation date.

Foreign Schools

·        Have evidence that verification of a foreign student’s high school diploma has been performed by an outside agency that is qualified to translate documents into English and confirm the academic equivalence to a U.S. high school diploma.

       Ability to Benefit

  •    Currently University Academy of Hair Design does not accept Ability to Benefit students.

Proof of Age

·        Students must be at least 17 years old or older.  Proof of age may be documented by a government issued ID.  Copies will be obtained at the time of admission.

Social Security Card

·        Proof of a social security card.  Must be the actual social security card and not a copy.  Copies will be obtained at the time of admission.

Instructor Program

·        Have a valid cosmetology license from the Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering.

Transfer Students

University Academy of Hair Design accepts transfer students from another institution if they meet the following terms:

  • Students must have an official transcript from the school they are transferring from with total hours completed, signed, and dated from official school representative of the transferred school.
  • Transfer hours out of state must be approved by the Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering before hours are eligible to be transferred.
  • University Academy of Hair Design makes decisions about whether to accept transfer hours on an individual basis and may or may not give an applicant credit for hours earned at another institution. 
  • In order to enroll and receive credit for hours, transfer students must ensure all state required paperwork and school transfer policies have been completed.
  • The maximum transfer hours accepted for the Cosmetology program are 600 actual hours for students who transfer from another school.
  • University Academy of Hair Design does not accept transfer hours for the instructor (Licensed More than a Year) program.
  • All transfer students must complete a placement exam before enrolling.
  • Transfer students will receive credit for exams taken and passed at another school, based on a review of the student’s transcript, and clearly cover the same topics as University Academy of Hair Design written exams, provided the student scored at least 70% or above on such exams.
  • A transfer student may be required to purchase (at an additional cost) any equipment, textbooks, uniforms, etc. required.
  • With regard to Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) a student transfer hours will be counted as both attempted and earned hours for the purpose of determining when the allowable maximum time frame has been exhausted.  SAP evaluation periods are based on actual hours at the institution.
  • The cost for transfer students is $8.00 per hour plus the Non-refundable Deposit fee of $250 ($100 registration fee, $100 application fee, and $50 processing fee) and any books and kit charges required.

University Academy of Hair Design reserves the right to deny a transfer student for any reason including but not limited to attendance and/or academic performance.

The school does not guarantee the transferability of credits to a college, university or institution.  Any decision on comparability, appropriateness, and applicability of credit and whether they should be accepted is the decision of the receiving institution.

Re-Entry

A student who is terminated or withdraws from enrollment may re-enter University Academy of Hair Design.  Doing so requires sufficient time for University Academy of Hair Design to process the withdrawal and re-entry paperwork as required by state and/or federal agencies.  It is the student’s responsibility to ensure all paperwork and fees are paid prior to restart. Students who have not completed the course within the maximum timeframe will be terminated.  Students will be permitted to re-enroll in the program on a cash-pay basis as outlined in the re-enrollment provisions of the institution’s admissions policy.

Steps for Re-entry

  • Write an essay stating what has changed that would allow them to complete the program.
  • All outstanding balances are paid in full.
  • Because tuition fees and cost are subject to change, re-entering students will be contracted according to current tuition cost and pay additional fees if applicable.
  • Have an interview with the administrator.
  • Complete all re-entry enrollment paperwork.  All re-entry students will be required to sign a new Enrollment Agreement.
  • Pay a re-entry fee of $175.00.

The following conditions will apply if a student re-enters:

  • The student will return to the program without loss of hours.
  • The student will be placed in the same stage as he/she was in at the time of termination or withdrawal and may have to repeat that stage from the beginning.
  • The students who re-enroll will return in the same Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) status at the time of withdrawal or termination.
  • Students who cannot meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) by their next evaluation will not be allowed to re-enter.

University Academy of Hair Design reserves the right to adjust hours and charge an additional fee if re-entry occurs more than one year from the student’s last date of attendance.

 

University Academy of Hair Design may refuse admissions to an applicant if any of the following requirements are not met.
