MAHASKA COUNTY – The holiday season is about giving
and that is exactly what the staff at The Hair Designers in
Oskaloosa wanted to do. “Lisa asked if we ever have nail
polish that we can't use, but we wanted to do more than
that,” The Hair Designers owner Pam Peters said.

Peters is referring to Lisa McNulty, MHP Hospice Volunteer
Coordinator, who made the request after a patient at the
MHP Hospice Serenity House wanted her nails painted.
“This woman had never in her life painted her finger nails.
One of our volunteers brought in nail polish and did her
fingers and toes, it made her feel so special,” McNulty
explained.

“We’ve had patients in the past that needed help with their
hair or make-up and our volunteers do all they can, but
sometimes we are lacking the right tools. This donation of
hair products, make-up and manicure supplies will go a
long way in meeting the wishes of some of our patients.”

Also included in the basket was a monetary donation
which McNulty said will be used to purchase additional
supplies. “We strive to meet the personal needs of each of
our patients on an individual level,” McNulty explained.
“Sometimes that means making purchases that aren't
always in the budget. Generous donations like this make it
possible for us to deliver on those small wishes that make
all the difference."

Pam is involved in presenting programs for the Look Good
Feel Good Program through the American Cancer Society.
This program is offered to cancer patients that have
questions about hair and makeup concerns. They receive
a complementary bag with several items donated from
various companies to take home.

The Hair Designers of Oskaloosa made a substantial donation to Mahaska Health Partnership’s AED (Automated External Defibrillators) Fundraiser to purchase two of the live-saving devices for the Lacey Recreation Complex. The AEDs are now located at the five-plex and the new stadium and will be available for all sporting events held in those locations.

The Hair Designers Salon & Spa would like to celebrate their “Gift Of Life” Fundraiser. We want to thank the Mahaska Health Partnership, our Corporate Donors, as well as guests of The Hair Designers for donating towards our purchase of a AED Defibrillator for the George Daily Auditorium. The AED machine will not only benefit our community, but all who visit.
