Pamala Gilmore
Acknowledged as one of Des Moines’ elite stylists, Pamala has won numerous awards and recognition for her cuts, styling, color, editorial work and commercial work.
A Des Moines native, Pamala has traveled extensively as a member of the esteemed Framesi Italian-Style Cutting Team and served as a Framesi educator for more than a decade. She’s taught continuing education classes most of her career, and is dedicated to educating upcoming and established stylists. Pamala is a three-time winner of Cityview’s Best Salon/Stylist…demonstrating the loyalty of her extensive client base.
Pamala is a certified Great Lengths extensionists.
What are you currently working on?
Being a great leader for my staff and providing ultimate guest services. I believe it’s important to pass it on to the future generation of stylists.
How do you spend your free time?
Reading and all things outdoors in the summer-gardening, golf, swimming, biking and rollerblading. Oh and I love the arts. We’re so lucky to have the Civic Center here in Des Moines and also so many other venues.
Describe your approach to doing hair:
I really want to get to know each guest as an individual from examining their hair texture, cranial shape and face shape to understanding their lifestyle. And then I can introduce trends but customized to fit each person’s needs.
Mantra:
When you’re green, you grow. When you’re ripe, you rot.
What inspires me?
Everything inspires me! Art, other people’s work, fall colors and of course education.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to color their hair for the first time?
Express yourself. Do it for YOU. Go soft or go bold we can help you find the right look. And think about time and budget for maintenance.

Kris Jenner, Jennifer Anniston and Miley Cyrus.
When did you know that you wanted to do hair?
I enrolled in cosmetology school to pursue a career as a make-up artist. I found that the art of hair was very intriguing and I took the love of color on the face and adapted that to hair color and that’s how it all started.
Describe your personal style.
I love bling, but not too much. And shoes! Love, love, love shoes. I’ve been known to buy the shoes and then the outfit.
