FAQs

What type of hair is used for hair extensions?

We use 100% natural Remy human hair for our extensions.   The term Remy hair means that the extensions are top quality with the hair cuticle facing in all the same direction.  This type of hair is carefully selected for excellence and guaranteed to provide superior results.  Extensions that do not use remy hair are created from hair that has been collected in piles and then arranged haphazardly with the cuticle on some strands of hair running in one direction while the cuticle of other strands runs in another. When this occurs, matting and tangling is always the result.  Some companies attempt to remove the cuticle by using a chemical treatment.  This process however results in destroying the hair structure and creating very fragile hair.  To combat the damage, a silicone layer is sometimes applied to the hair extensions to add shine and body that were removed during the chemical treatment.  This outer coating can have a very short life.

It is difficult to tell the difference in hair extension quality.  At the Los Angeles Hair Extension Specialist, we use only top quality 100% Remy human hair in order to provide our clients with the very best hair extensions possible.

How do I care for my hair extensions?

We recommend a good quality sulfate free shampoo.  Gentle moisturizing shampoos, conditioners, and styling products will add hydration back into the hair.  Products for oily hair or strippers that take out chlorine or product build up should not be used as they will leave the hair dry.  Use styling products that are zero or low alcohol. Products for dry hair are the best choice for hair extensions. Spray in conditioners are wonderful for the ends.

When shampooing your hair extensions, wash the hair in one direction from top to bottom. Avoid washing hair upside down. Wash hair right after swimming. When brushing your hair, start from the bottom and work your way up while holding the top.

Will it be obvious that I am wearing hair extensions?

When properly applied, your extensions will be completely undetectable.  No one will be able to tell that you are wearing hair extensions.  We will assist you in choosing the right color and curl pattern so that your extensions will blend with your natural hair.

Can my hair extensions be permed or color treated?

Yes, hair extensions can be permed or colored just like normal hair.  However, If you do decide to perm or color your hair extensions, it is best to use a semi- permanent color or color conditioner and not peroxide in order to preserve the life and beauty of your hair extensions.

How long does it take to get hair extensions?

This depends upon the type of extensions, the method of attachment, the amount of extensions that you  want and other factors.  The process can take between several hours up to a full day depending upon various factors.

How often do I need to maintain my hair extensions?

Typically, every 6 to 8 weeks is the average length of time between appointments for maintaining hair extensions.

Can I brush, blow dry and style my hair extensions?

Your hair extensions can be brushed, curled, and styled just like your normal hair.  When brushing, be careful, and if you have a tangle, hold the hair while you brush it. We suggest letting hair air dry and using a wide tooth comb to detangle.  Hair will dry out sooner if blow dryers, flat irons, and other heat styling tools are used.

Will applying hair extensions damage my natural hair?

If correctly applied and properly maintained and cared for, hair extensions should not damage your natural hair.   It is very important to choose wisely when selecting a salon to install your hair extensions.  At the Los Angeles Hair Extension Specialist, our 20 years of experience in the hair industry specializing in hair extensions gives us an advantage over less experienced stylists.   We can make recommendations about which hair extensions are the best option for you at your consultation.
