Cara Hughes

Cara Tanner Hughes grew up in Mobile and earned her AA in Cosmetology at Bishop State College in 2001. "My father taught me the benefits of being self-employed. I admired his hard work and the pleasure he got from working with his hands. I have always liked making things - crafty stuff, sewing, projects. After high school, I knew that working with hair would be the perfect career for me. I love the creative aspect and the client relationships – nothing is more gratifying to me than helping my customers look and feel their best."

Cara specializes in natural looking color and highlights. In order to stay at the top of her game, she has continued her education by frequently attending industry training seminars. Some of these include L'Oreal Academy of Color in New York City, a TIGI cutting class in Austin, and classes with celebrity stylist Nick Arrojo in various cities and in his New York City studio.

"Nick Arrojo has become my mentor. He taught me how to approach the art and the business of hair from both a practical and an artistic angle. It is so exciting to take his concepts about style and bring them to my clients here in Mobile."

Cara is married to Keenan Hughes and they have three daughters. They have also been fostering since July of 2018 and enjoy getting the occasional little boy to shake things up a bit. When she isn't thinking about hair and beauty, she is probably on her boat!

She has since continued her education with a Balayage class with Loreal artist Jessica Buse, and a color correction class with Loreal artist Christine Fitzpatrick. “I chose cosmetology because I wanted a career where I could be in contact with people and be creative.”

My favorite service to offer is balayage. I love seeing people try new things so they feel good about themselves. I was a competitive swimmer for ten years and now I do it as exercise and to help clear my mind. I’m a movie fanatic so I love to watch Netflix. I’m also very involved at my church, Mars Hill.

“My mom is my biggest inspiration. She went back to school to get her masters as a nurse practitioner while raising three girls and working as a nurse. Her hard work and dedication taught me to go the extra mile and work towards my goals. ‘You are only limited to the excuses that you make’.”
