Giving Back

Berlin believes it is extremely important to give back to inspire the inside when working within an industry focused on outward appearance.

Berlin has given back many ways in the Bay area community by volunteering for countless hours for the Breast Cancer Emergency Fund and the AIDS Emergency Fund. Whether it’s going to a hospital to help a cancer patient deal with the loss of hair, working A Home Away From Homelessness, attending a gala styling children for a big event, or running a marathon for the San Francisco Aids foundation; Berlin is always the first to raise his hand to generate beneficiary funds and inspiring awareness.

Giving back to the community has earned Berlin five certificates of honor for his work from the state of California and three from the beautiful city of San Francisco. Berlin can often be heard saying “without giving freely and unconditionally, we cannot prepare to receive”.

Located in Fort Mason and Marin Headlands areas—four “homes” provide a physical, emotional and spiritual break for children living in dire situations. Under the direction of Founder and Director, Jeanie Kortum, Home Away from Homelessness has received the Silver SPUR Award from the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association along with many other commendations and awards.
