Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called Alopecia Areata, which has no known cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.
Orbis is a non-profit, global development organization whose mission is to eliminate avoidable blindness by strengthening the capacity of local eye health partners in their efforts to prevent and treat blindness. Through the principles of capacity building, local partners gain self-sufficiency in eye health care, and residents enjoy quality eye health services that are affordable, accessible and sustainable.
We are currently collecting hair clippings for Matter of Trust. This organization uses hair clippings from participating salons to make hair mats to aid in cleaning up oil spills like the one in the Gulf.
Hairdressers against AIDS is an advocacy program sponsored by the L'orél Foundation D'enterprise and Unesco empowering salon professionals worldwide to use their unique relationship to their clients and communities to become a resource to interact, educate and help prevent the spread of HIV. Together, we can become a powerful voice - for a beautiful world without AIDS.
